Since the beginning of UEFA EURO 2016, an international E-sport tournament organised by KONAMI takes place in parallel to the competition. This virtual football tournament will come to an end on Thursday, with its semi-finals and the great final between the world’s best players.
While E-sport (electronic sport) is getting more and more popular, Konami, editor of PES (Pro Evolution Soccer), official video game of UEFA EURO 2016, decided, in partnership with UEFA, to organise a great virtual tournament open to all during the Euro championship.
From June 4th to June 25th, more than 1,000 players from all around the world competed against each other during online encounters, but also off-line directly on the Eiffel Tower Fan Zone. Several of these encounters have been organised by official sponsors of UEFA EURO 2016. The City of Paris took fully part in this tournament by organising on its own 8 phases of qualification.
“During this Euro 2016, Paris celebrated all kinds of footballs: the official competition of course, but also women’s football, blind football, powerchair football and even experiences mixing art and football. This is why we naturally celebrate e-sport, a fast-growing discipline in which Paris invests today in order to one day become its European capital” explains Jean-François Martins, Deputy Mayor of Paris for Sport and Tourism.
On Thursday, July 7th at 04:30 p.m., the 4 best players will fight for the final title, on the Scène Joffre of the Eiffel Tower Fan Zone. For the occasion, the games will be broadcasted live on the screens of the Fan Zone, including on the 420 m2 giant screen. The winner will receive its trophy on Sunday July 10th at the Stade de France, an hour and a half before the great UEFA EURO 2016 final.
